So what actually is Cellulose Acetate?
Cellulose Acetate, although sometimes referred to as a 'plastic', is actually a plant-based material. Cellulose is the main substance in the walls of plant cells, helping plants to remain stiff and upright. 'Plastic' in this context refers to it's properties, however there is a major difference between Cellulose Acetate and Petroleum-based plastics (which frankly, a lot of the pesky big eyewear companies use... Yes, those ones you are thinking of, and probably wearing!)
